5th Grade Strings
ELEMENTARY STRINGS PROGRAM
The North Kansas City School District has made a strong commitment to offer instrumental music to all 5th grade students. Students experience how it feels to produce musical sounds on string instruments. During a district wide tour by string teachers, 5th grade students from every school will play a violin, viola, cello and bass.
Following the tour, students and their parents may elect to continue their studies and become part of the Elementary Strings Program. String instruction is available in the North Kansas City School District from grades five through twelve. Each of the middle schools and high schools offer excellent programs. Playing a musical instrument can bring lifelong enjoyment and many string players find themselves in demand at the university level and in community groups.
Biweekly string classes are offered, beginning in September. At that time, students will be encouraged to rent or purchase their own instruments. Rental or purchase options are available from a variety of local music stores and as assistance to you, the District hosts a Beginner Strings Fair. . Merchants from five area music stores will be available to answer questions and rent or sell instruments. Your student’s string teacher also will be available to discuss your child's future in the orchestra.
We hope that your child enjoys participating in exploratory strings, and we encourage you to seriously consider continuing in the orchestra program.
