Friends of NKC Schools
Are you a graduate of NKC Schools? Are you a parent, volunteer or business partner? Maybe you have a young child who will be a future student in our schools, or perhaps you are a grandparent of a student.
If you answered “yes” to any of these – or if you have another connection to NKC Schools, please consider joining “Friends of NKC Schools”.
It’s easy. It’s free. (There are no meetings!) And you will receive a small token of our appreciation.

All we need is your contact information and little bit about your relationship with the district.
Periodically we will send you district news via email or U.S. Mail. Occasionally, we will ask for your input on important educational issues. On the lighter side, we will notify our “Friends” about upcoming class reunions or other special events. We will not sell or give away the information entrusted to us. And, if you later decide you no longer want to be a Friend, we will take you off the list.

PTA or PTSA
One of the several ways to volunteer in North Kansas City Schools is to join a school PTA or PTSA. Units are members of the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The mission of a PTA or PTSA unit is:
- To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.
- To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children, and
- To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
You can become a PTA member of any unit whether or not you have students at that particular school. Contact the school office to get in touch with a PTA member.
Another way to volunteer is through the YouthFriends program in our schools. YouthFriends connects caring adult volunteers with students during the school day. If you are interested in participating, visit North Kansas City Schools YouthFriends program where you'll find application forms.
Applicants attend an interview, are trained and agree to a background check prior to being placed with district students. Participation is flexible — YouthFriends choose a day and time that is best for them.
Contact Athena Graham for an application to become a YouthFriend in this growing mentoring program at (816) 321-4696.
