Volunteers

PTA or PTSA
One of the several ways to volunteer in North Kansas City Schools is to join a school PTA or PTSA. Units are members of the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The mission of a PTA or PTSA unit is:

  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.
  • To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children, and
  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

You can become a PTA member of any unit whether or not you have students at that particular school. Contact the school office to get in touch with a PTA member.

YOUTHFRIENDS
Another way to volunteer is through the YouthFriends program in our schools. YouthFriends connects caring adult volunteers with students during the school day. If you are interested in participating, visit North Kansas City Schools YouthFriends program where you'll find application forms.

Applicants attend an interview, are trained and agree to a background check prior to being placed with district students. Participation is flexible — YouthFriends choose a day and time that is best for them.

Contact YouthFriends coordinator Amy Maskil at (816) 413-5470 for an application to become a YouthFriend in this growing mentoring program.
