INCLEMENT WEATHER & SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Our winter weather procedures have one aim — to ensure the safety of your child. School may start late; students may be released early; or classes may be canceled entirely due to inclement weather. Please be familiar with the following information sources in the event of school cancellations, early release, or late start. (List of Alternate Bus Stops, and a new option Alternate Bus Stops - Level 2 which is only used when the intersection of N.E. Russell Road and N. Holmes Street is impassable for buses. Parents of those students notified have been notified by letter of this additional bus stop option.)
North Kansas City Schools provides several ways for you to get the latest information on district school closings for days when weather looks hazardous:
- The District website at www.nkcschools.org posts school closings and activities cancellations within minutes of a decision.
- School Messenger is an urgent notification calling system that sends a voice message when classes are canceled, delayed, or students are released early.
- The District Information Line at (816) 413-6000 extension 8000 provides a recorded message regarding school closings.
Remember that local radio and television stations also provide school closing announcements. Additionally cancellation information is posted on Facebook and Twitter.
