Return to School: Learning Options for 2020-2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought new challenges for our community and our school district. As we continue to adapt and find new ways to best serve our students, we have continually sought feedback from our families. Thank you to all those who have shared their suggestions, questions, concerns and ideas as we continue to re-envision how the new school year will look. On July 13, we released our initial NKC Schools Return to School Plan, offering families the opportunity to choose either face-to-face or virtual instruction for their students. As a result of community feedback, we will be expanding our virtual options for all students. For the 2020-2021 school year, we will offer an updated continuum of options for our students to continue their learning virtually or face-to-face this fall, each led by our NKC Schools teachers. We recognize that each family’s situation is unique, and that connections to our schools and teachers remain critically important during this time. Read more to learn about each of our three options available.
1. View the Return to School Plan.
The NKC Schools Return to School Plan offers more detailed information about academic experiences for the 2020-2021 school year, along with information on athletics and activities, transportation, food and nutrition services, and more. Procedures for masks, sanitizing and disinfecting, and other safety precautions are also detailed.
2. Review learning options.
View the flyer or read more below about the spectrum of learning options that NKC Schools will provide for our students during the 2020-2021 school year. For further questions, contact your building principal or utilize the Let's Talk platform for specific concerns.
NKC Schools instructional leaders also hosted two live Parent University sessions on Wednesday, August 5. This provided an opportunity for families to learn more about each option and how it may look for their student. The session was recorded and is available on the NKC Schools YouTube channel here.
3. Select a virtual option by August 14.
We asked all families interested in a virtual option for their student to let us know by Friday, August 14. If you already indicated a preference for virtual learning, your student will be automatically be enrolled in the NKC on Canvas option. If you would like to select or remain with the SchoolsPLP virtual option for your student instead, we also asked families to let us know. If you would like your student to attend face-to-face, no action on your part is necessary.
