Celebrating the Class of 2020

  • High school graduation is a milestone event, and NKC Schools is committed to making it memorable for our Class of 2020. We solicited feedback from students and families to help us reimagine graduation celebrations for our seniors this year. While this year looks differently than years past, each high school hosted a series of events in May to honor graduates and celebrate their many accompishments.

Seniors had the opportunity to pick up their cap and gown at school and return for cap and gown photos on their originally scheduled graduation day. Each high school class of 2020 was honored with a virtual graduation ceremony the week of May 25. Diploma presentation events have been scheduled for July to allow an opportunity for students to come together and receive their diplomas in front of family members.

If you have an additional question, please see the Graduation FAQ or reach out to us through the Questions-Comments-Kudos button at the top of the page, or via this link, and we will ensure your question is addressed by the appropriate individual.

Diploma Presentations

  • As our graduates prepare to begin a new chapter in their lives this fall, NKC Schools will offer one final opportunity to honor the amazing Class of 2020. At in-person diploma ceremonies during the last week of July, all graduates are invited to walk across the stage, accept their diploma, and celebrate this milestone accomplishment with classmates.

Due to public health guidance from the Clay County Health Department, gatherings are limited to 250 individuals. To maintain social distancing and limit the number of attendees, each high school will host multiple, smaller diploma presentations to recognize each student in front of family and guests. We will follow additional guidelines to ensure the safety of all attendees:

    • Each diploma presentation will be limited to no more than 75 graduates. Students will be randomly assigned by the first letter of their last name to one, hour-long session between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.
    • Registration is required for ALL graduates.
    • Graduates may invite two guests to attend in person. Their names must also be included when registering to participate.
    • All graduates and guests will be required to wear masks. Masks may be removed when social distancing of at least six feet is maintained while seated.
    • Diploma presentations will last approximately 30-40 minutes, and feature an opportunity for students to hear their name called as they walk across the stage in front of classmates and families. Graduates should wear their graduation regalia, including cap and gown, and appropriate shoes for walking on a turf football field.
    • Each diploma presentation will be live-streamed for those unable to attend. Visit the N2 Sports YouTube channel to view the live stream of each session.

In addition, all rehearsal events scheduled for the week prior to diploma presentations have been canceled due to limits on gatherings and the inability to maintain social distancing as required by the Clay County Health Department. We didn’t want one positive case at these events to ruin the opportunity for all to receive a diploma. We look forward to seeing our graduates again for that purpose!

The Class of 2020 continues to make us proud with all that they have already accomplished. While we know this spring’s celebrations have been far from traditional, we’re proud of the positivity and resilience our graduates have exhibited.

Graduation Day: Cap & Gown Photos

  • As part of plans to celebrate seniors, NKC Schools organized several ways to celebrate the Class of 2020 on their originally scheduled graduation dates. On May 13-18, an opportunity was offered for seniors to wear their caps and gowns for graduation pictures at their high schools. See the full image galleries from cap & gown photo days here!

Lights were also turned on to illuminate our football fields in recognition of our graduates, spotlighting this important school celebration.

Each senior was provided with a yard sign after taking a photo, so that our community can celebrate with you. Throughout the month of May and on these special days, district social media will feature videos and highlights recognizing our 2020 senior class.

Virtual Graduations

  • NKC Schools hosted a live-stream graduation for each high school class to honor and recognize their accomplishments. These online events followed a program similar to our traditional in-person ceremony with musical performances, student speeches, and the recognition of special honors. Each student's name and photo was presented on screen as part of the Class of 2020.

Each graduation premiered on the NKC Schools YouTube channel. Direct links are available and were shared with students and families in advance of each graduation program as well as posted on the district and school websites. Families and community members are encouraged to celebrate their graduates as they would during an in-person ceremony while following social distancing guidelines.
