Public Participation in Board Meetings
Placing Items on a Meeting Agenda
District residents may place items on the agenda of a regularly scheduled board meeting as outlined in Board Policy BDDH-1. The agenda items must be directly related to the governance or operation of the district. Residents who wish to place an item on the agenda must first meet with the superintendent or designee to attempt to resolve the issue unless the superintendent or designee waives such or meeting. If the meeting is waived, does not take place within twenty business days, or the meeting occurs but the resident is dissatisfied with the outcome, the resident may submit a written request to the board secretary to add the item to the board agenda. Please refer to Board Policy BDDH-1 for more details and information.
Visitors' Comments
Each regular North Kansas City Schools Board of Education business meeting has an opportunity for visitors to make comments to the Board. Only district residents, district employees, parents/guardians of district students and owners of district businesses may speak at board meetings. Any non-board member who wishes to speak during the official part of the meeting must register to do so. Any individual may register through the form below. Requests using this form must be submitted no later than 12:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting. In addition, a request card shall be provided for this purpose and shall be submitted to the board secretary prior to the start of the meeting. Please see the board secretary prior to the meeting for more information.
The Board president will call the meeting to order and at the "Visitors' Comments" agenda item ask for comments from the audience. Patrons are asked to keep their remarks concise and to a limit of three minutes. Patrons will be scheduled to speak in the order requests are received. This portion of the meeting shall not exceed one-half hour. In the event Board members agree that the normal flow of business is being unnecessarily delayed, they may suspend public participation.
