FREE High School Equivalency Preparation Classes
We offer in-person high school equivalency classes to help prepare students to take the HiSET OR GED exam (the exam is taken at another location through GED or HiSET.) Morning classes are held from 9:30 am-12:00pm (Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday.) Evening classes are held from 6:00pm-8:30pm (Tuesday and Thursday only.) Students are asked to commit to all scheduled classes to successfully prepare for the HiSET or GED exam.

COST:
- Prep classes at our center are free.
- If you are planning to take the HiSET test, the cost will be $120 for in-person testing and $172.50 for online testing for the full battery of five tests.
- If you are planning to take the GED test, the cost will be $142 for in-person testing and $182 for online testing for the full battery of four tests.
- Scholarships available for those who qualify.
- You will be able to test on one section at a time. You do not need to pay for all tests at once. Do not pay on GED.com until you and your teacher determine you are ready.
- We DO NOT GIVE THE HISET OR GED OFFICIAL TEST AT THIS LOCATION. When it is determined you are ready to take the tests (through formal and informal assessment tools,) we will help you sign up for the test at the best location for you. Remote testing for the HiSET and GED is currently an option. HiSET testing information can be found at hiset.org and GED testing information can be found at ged.com.
- READING REQUIREMENTS: We require students to read English at a fifth grade level or higher. If not, we will prepare you through our English Language Learner program if applicable. Concurrent enrollment in both programs is an option for students who meet those requirements.
- Visit https://dese.mo.gov/college-career-readiness/high-school-equivalency for more information on Missouri's requirements for high school equivalency certificates.
**We conduct in-person orientations at least twice a year, usually July or August and January or February, and occasionally in October if there are openings. Please check your email regularly after registering, including the spam or junk folder, so you don't miss any information. The email usually comes from Michelle.Grayson@nkcschools.org. If you have any questions, please call 816-321-5011.
SNOW DAY POLICY: If North Kansas City Schools in-person classes are closed due to bad weather, classes will be cancelled for adult education.
