In The Know
In February 2026, we launched In the Know — a new update designed to keep our community informed about state, local, and federal actions that could affect North Kansas City Schools. From fact-checks on school funding to updates on legislation moving through Jefferson City, this newsletter will highlight developments that may shape our classrooms, operations, and resources.
Our goal is simple: share timely, accurate information in simple, easy-to-understand terms and explain what it could mean for our students, staff, and families here in North Kansas City Schools.

This issue of In The Know focuses on the final week of Missouri’s legislative session and the growing financial impact of state budget decisions on public schools. It explains how the legislature approved a state budget that does not fully fund the Foundation Formula, outlines concerns about the reliability of proposed replacement funding sources, and shares what that will mean for NKC Schools’ budget heading into next year.
The update also highlights projected revenue losses for the district, the district’s plan to prioritize cuts away from classrooms whenever possible, and ways community members can stay engaged with lawmakers during the final days of the session. Additional updates cover several education bills still under consideration, including proposals related to A-F school report cards, mandatory open enrollment, and early literacy requirements.
