Senior Tax Exchange Program
The Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP) is an opportunity for senior citizens to provide service to North Kansas City Schools and in exchange receive credit toward payment of Clay County real estate taxes. Any senior who is 62 years of age or older, receives social security, and owns taxable real estate property within the district is eligible to apply. STEP participants have the flexibility of choosing when and how many hours per week he or she works. Participants receive a maximum tax credit of 78 hours per calendar year.
STEP participants serve in the elementary and middle schools of North Kansas City Schools in the following capacities:
- Library Media Center Support
- Office Support
Applications may be submitted to Athena Graham at any time and are reviewed when a vacancy occurs.
Funding for STEP is provided through the NKC Schools district budget and a grant from Clay County Senior Services.
