Tax Rate
Our current tax rate is more than a full dollar lower than it was ten years ago. Today, residents pay a lower tax rate while our schools provide more opportunities for students.
Higher property taxes don't always mean more money for schools. Missouri's Hancock Amendment limits how much a school district can collect to the lower of 5% or the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation.

How NKC Schools Compares
How do we stack up to districts across the Kansas City metro? NKC Schools' tax rate is right in the middle of our neighbors', providing an excellent return on our community's investment.
The NKC Schools Board of Education sets the tax rate each year at a public hearing in September. See Board Policy DC-1: Taxing and Borrowing Authority and Limitations for more detailed information.
