Operations & Facilities

Operations encompasses a variety of departments that work collaboratively to support the district’s number one priority, educating children. More than 1,500 support staff in NKC Schools work across our 54 sites in a variety of key roles, coming together to serve as relentless champions for all students.

A few highlights include:

  • Buses traveling over 2.4 million miles a year
  • Kitchens serving over three million meals annually
  • Technology Department supports over 22,000 Apple devices
  • Maintenance Department supports over 3.4 million square feet of space in 54 facilities
  • Grounds Department cares for 906 acres of land

Facilities

North Kansas City Schools has 36 school sites, including 22 elementary schools, two sixth grade centers, four middle schools and four high schools.

Among its other facilities are the Thomas P. Cummings Administrative Center, the R.B. Doolin Center for Educational Development, the NKC Schools Early Education Center, the Career & Technical Education Center, Golden Oaks Education Center, and the Joseph G. Jacobs Education Center. Additionally, the district has five unique stadiums and a variety of athletic facilities.

Facility Usage

As a service to the community and in accordance with law, the Board of Education may allow community groups to use district facilities for educational, recreational, social, civic, philanthropic and other similar purposes when the facilities are not being used by the district or district-sponsored groups.

(Note:  The Application for Use of School Facilities must be returned with a copy of your Certificate of Insurance for $1,000,000 with North Kansas City Schools named as the policy holder before your event will be confirmed.)
