Parents as Teachers is a free program supporting North Kansas City School District families from pregnancy until kindergarten entry—helping you nurture your child’s growth and success from the very beginning.

You are your child's first and most important teacher.

The first three years of life are filled with incredible growth and discovery—your child will learn more during these early years than at any other time. 

Our parent educators are here, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical ideas to support your parenting journey.

  • Strategies to strengthen your parent-child bond

  • Support on topics like health and safety, nutrition, sleep, positive guidance, and emotional connection

Our program is open to all North Kansas City School District families who are expecting a baby or have a child from birth until they enter kindergarten.

We Offer:

Personal Home Visits
Enjoy one-on-one visits with a certified parent educator who will partner with you to support your child’s growth and learning.

Group Connections
Join other families throughout the year for fun, interactive events! These include parent-child activities, parent education nights, and small group discussions where you can share ideas and experiences.

Developmental Screenings
Each year, we offer free developmental screenings for all children in the program. Screenings look at your child’s language, thinking, motor, and social-emotional skills, as well as hearing, vision, dental, and overall health.

Community Resources
Your parent educator can connect you with a variety of resources—from food and financial support to fun family outings and local activities—to help your whole family thrive.
