Personal Device Policy
North Kansas City Schools has implemented a districtwide policy restricting the use of personal electronic devices – such as cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches – during school hours. This policy aligns with Missouri state law passed in 2025 (SB68), which requires public school districts to adopt a policy limiting device use during the instructional day. Click here to read the portion of SB68 that addresses personal electronic communication devices.
Prior to implementation, NKC Schools surveyed students, families, and staff to better understand current practices. Under the policy, devices must be put away from the first bell to dismissal, with exceptions for medical needs, IEP/504 accommodations, and emergencies.
