New Long-Range Facility Plan
NKC Schools' new Long-Range Facility Plan incorporates input and thinking from thousands of district students, parents and guardians, staff members and our overall community together with updated building assessments and demographic data. This roadmap represents our commitment to creating learning environments in which we all can take great pride. The Long-Range Facility Plan charts a course for the years ahead that expands opportunities for all students at every stage of their educational journey.
The 25+ projects outlined in the plan are grouped into three phases spread over several years. View the full November 25, 2024 Board presentation here. A summary of phase one projects, plus an outline of plans for phases two and three, is below. Look for more information to come this spring as we begin to put the plan into action.
Phase One Projects
Oak Park High School Performing Arts Center
A new performing arts addition to Oak Park will expand opportunities for students in several areas, including theater, choir, band, orchestra, and more. The new PAC will also serve as a hub for Oak Park feeder pattern events, providing a common space that welcomes all future Northmen.
Major Renovations at New Mark Middle School
Extensive renovations will benefit Northgate and New Mark, including the addition of a new gym and high-wind shelter at each building, providing additional space for students and community use. At New Mark, a renovated library space will welcome students, while accessibility improvements will be made at Northgate. Both schools will see extensive flooring, paint and lighting updates. Renovations throughout the buildings will improve many aspects of the middle school experience for our 7th and 8th grade students.
Winnetonka High School Performing Arts Center
Winnetonka will be home to a new performing arts center, bringing new and increased opportunities for all students. This modern space will support programs like theater, choir, band, and orchestra. The new space will also become a gathering place for the Tonka feeder pattern, offering a shared space to connect and celebrate future Griffins.
Major Renovations at Northgate Middle School
Significant renovations at Northgate will update the building to better serve today's students. A gymnasium addition will add space and provide a high-wind shelter in the event of severe weather. Redesigned spaces and major work to the building layout will help students better navigate and utilize the spaces available to support their learning.
Addition at Oakwood Manor Elementary School
Say goodbye to the "gym-eteria" – a brand-new gymnasium addition to Oakwood Manor will replace the existing dual-purpose space that serves as both gym and cafeteria! It will also provide a high-wind shelter in the event of severe weather. In addition, updates to finishes throughout the school will ensure Oakwood Manor is ready to serve generations of students to come.
Maintenance & More
Several smaller projects will round out phase one, including maintenance, rooftop A/C units, and new outdoor equipment storage facilities at many sites throughout the district. NKC Schools also intends to purchase the Northland Innovation Center located in Gladstone outright, providing a more fiscally effective use of funds than the current lease agreement and additional space for district programming.
Phase Two
The second phase of our new Long-Range Facilities Plan outlines the next group of sites slated for proposed improvements. The schools and projects outlined below were identified based on feedback from our community and onsite facility assessments.

Phase Three
Planning for growth, needs and projects out for nearly a decade from now can be challenging in a district our size. The third phase of our Long-Range Facilities Plan is designed to be more fluid and flexible. Those sites on the horizon for consideration in different components of phase three include:
