Sandy Gross, a dedicated PE teacher at Briarcliff Elementary, is living her dream of teaching and inspiring students every day. As a Deaf educator, Sandy brings a unique perspective to her classroom, encouraging students to embrace diverse ways of communication. With the support of her interpreter, Carissa Smith, she seamlessly connects with her students, fostering an environment filled with energy, inclusivity, and encouragement. Her perseverance and resilience have made her a beloved role model among her students, who admire her determination and positive spirit.
Recently, Sandy took her inspiring story to the national stage when she was invited to sign the national anthem at the Women’s National Soccer Championship in Kansas City. What made this already extraordinary moment even more special? She shared the spotlight with none other than Grammy Award-winning artist Melissa Etheridge – Sandy’s favorite singer. Standing alongside Etheridge, Sandy brought the anthem to life in a way that resonated deeply with the crowd and viewers at home.
For Sandy, this was more than just a performance. As a proud member of a military family, signing the national anthem carried deep emotional significance. The moment was filled with pride, honor, and a profound sense of connection to both her roots and her dreams. Back at Briarcliff, her students beamed with excitement, thrilled to see their teacher on TV and inspired by her incredible achievement.
Sandy’s message to her students is simple yet powerful: dream big and never let obstacles stand in your way. She believes that with perseverance, determination, and a fearless heart, any dream is within reach. Sandy Gross isn’t just teaching PE; she’s teaching life lessons – one inspiring moment at a time.
