Chapel Hill Elementary, Gladstone Rotary unveil 'peace pole' as symbol of global unity
APRIL 7, 2026

GLADSTONE, Mo. – As the morning sun rose over the Chapel Hill Elementary courtyard on Tuesday, North Kansas City Schools gathered to unveil a new Rotary International Peace Pole.

The monument, gifted by the Gladstone Rotary Club, serves as a permanent symbol of global harmony and a testament to the deep, multi-year partnership between the school and the service organization.

"This peace pole stands as a quiet yet powerful reminder of something we all believe in: that peace begins with each of us," said Dr. Rochel Daniels, superintendent for North Kansas City Schools. "Its message, 'May Peace Prevail on Earth,' transcends language, culture, and borders, calling us to live with kindness, understanding, and respect every single day."

Part of an expansive global initiative, these landmarks act as silent messengers in public spaces worldwide, challenging onlookers to keep the spirit of unity at the forefront of their lives.

For the Chapel Hill community, the installation is more than just a new fixture but a reflection of a culture that prioritizes character and connection.

"What makes this partnership so special is that it goes beyond any single project or event. It’s built on shared values of service, leadership, and a deep commitment to investing in the next generation," Daniels said. "Together, we’ve created opportunities for students to feel supported, inspired, and connected to their community."

The Gladstone Rotary Club selected Chapel Hill for the honor to recognize the school’s ongoing collaborative efforts.

By placing the pole in the central courtyard, the partners have established a dedicated space for student reflection, joining thousands of similar sites worldwide in a collective hope for a more harmonious future.
