All NKC Schools families (new and returning) are required to complete the enrollment and registration process for each child each year.

High school students will receive a list of supplies in their syllabus on the first day of class. 

Required Immunizations

In accordance with Missouri law, the district will not allow a student to attend school until we have satisfactory evidence on file demonstrating that the student has been immunized, that the immunization process has begun and satisfactory progress is being accomplished, or that the student is exempted from obtaining immunizations in accordance with the law. Students entering 8th grade for the 2024-2025 school year will need to have the following additional vaccinations on file with their school nurse: 

• Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (Tdap)
• Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV ACWY)

Students entering 12th grade for the 2024-2025 school year will need to have the following additional vaccination on file with their school nurse:  

• Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV ACWY)

NOTE: The final dose of MCV must be received after age 16 years.

Transportation

View your child’s bus stop information, pick-up and drop-off times in the Parent Portal. Simply log in and click the Transportation tab on the left. Bus stop information for 2024-25 will be available in August 2024. 

If your students will ride the bus this year, make sure to download the VersaTrans My Stop App. Track bus arrival times, delays, and more right from your Apple or Android device. Learn more and get started here.

Food & Nutrition Services

The federal waiver and funding that allowed us to provide free meals for all students ended in May of 2022. Unfortunately, NKC Schools is no longer able to offer free meals for all. If you believe that you might qualify for free or reduced meals, fill out an application online as soon as possible. More information is available here.

Families are strongly encouraged to apply for the free/reduced price meals program. This ensures discounts on a variety of other programs, including testing, activity fees and more! Apply online here.

Technology

NKC Schools students use a variety of technology tools to support learning across all grades. All parents and guardians are encouraged to create a Parent Observer account on Canvas, our online learning management system. A parent observer account allows you to view your child's progress, assignments and other information.

Enrollment, along with grade, schedule, bus and other general information may be accessed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Students in grades K-12 are issued a district device. We encourage all families to consider device insurance to minimize risk. Insurance may be purchased on MyPaymentsPlus until mid-September; a device inspection is required prior to purchasing insurance after this date. 

Communication

Ongoing communication with parents and guardians is a priority for our schools and the district. Read more about our communication plan here.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up to receive text alerts from their student's school and the district. To opt in, text YES to 67587. Text messages are used to provide inclement weather updates and important reminders, and can be opted-out at any time.

All parents and guardians receive regular district email newsletters with updates, celebrations and news every other Tuesday during the school year.

YouthFriends

YouthFriends are volunteer mentors who support students. Opportunities to volunteer include before or after school activities, breakfast or lunch buddies, classroom helpers, library assistance, tutoring and more.
