NKC Theatre Presents One Man Two Guvnors

Start Date: Friday - February 24, 2017

One Man Two Guvnors
February 23-24, 2017

North Kansas City High School continues its theatrical season with the comedy One Man Two Guvnors, by Richard Bean. The play is an English adaptation of Servant of Two Masters, a 1743 Commedia dell'arte style comedy play by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. The play replaces the Italian period setting of the original with Brighton in 1963. The show runs February 23-24 at the North Kansas City High School auditorium at 620 East 23rd Avenue in North Kansas City. Tickets are $5 each. An electronic copy of the playbill can be found here.

In 1963 Brighton, out-of-work blues musician Francis Henshall becomes employed by two men – Roscoe Crabbe, a gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class twit. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis is also working for someone else. Complicating events, Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe in disguise, her twin brother Roscoe having been killed by her boyfriend, who is none other than Stanley. Complicating events still further is local mobster Charlie the Duck, who has arranged his daughter Pauline's engagement to Roscoe despite her preference for over-the-top amateur actor Alan Dangle. Even further complications are prompted by numerous letters, a very heavy trunk, several unlucky audience volunteers, an extremely elderly waiter and Francis' pursuit of his twin passions: Charlie's feminist bookkeeper Dolly, and food.

The talented members of the cast and crew of One Man Two Guvnors range in age from freshmen to seniors. The cast includes leading performances from: senior Dorveon Mulkey (Alan); juniors Annika Gleaton (Dolly), Kyla Carey (Pauline), Gideon Madison (Francis), Morgan Strickland (Charlie); Alyssa Heyer (Rachel) and Sage Kirkland (Stanley); and freshman Brian Pelico (Lloyd). Senior theatre student, Bruce Menard directs the show and teachers Randy Jackson and Amanda Dolinger oversee the technical crews. Each crew is comprised of students who have been working hard on the behind the scenes aspects of the show including props, costumes, make-up, sound, and lighting. Steve Wagner’s stagecraft class built the set. Please come out to see One Man Two Guvnors at North Kansas City High School this winter.
