Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year went home with those students that will have a kindergarten sibling here at Bell Prairie next year.  If you know of someone in your area that will have a kindergarten student at Bell Prairie next year, please have them contact Brenda McKenzie at 816-413-4200.

Once the paperwork has been turned in you will set up an appointment for Kindergarten Screening, April 6-8.

Kindergarten Round-up will be March 5th - 6:00 – 7:30

First things first:  I would like to thank everyone for the sweet gifts and the lovely messages that I received during Counselor’s Week.  Wow…you all have reminded me how lucky I am to be working here.  Never doubt how much I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this community.  It is truly GREAT to be a Bell Prairie Mustang.  :-)  Thanks again!

And now for other news!

    • The Great Kindness Challenge was a happy experience for all concerned.  Our 578 kind-hearted hands are ready to be shipped to California.  The messages created at the Kindness Station have been delivered.  The amazing door decorations remain as reminders  of the simple concept that we focused on all week: Kindness Matters.  Many thanks to all of the volunteers and staff members who made the festivities possible, to the parents who supported kids as they worked through the kindness checklist, and to the teachers who carved out time to allow students to share ideas and enjoy the activities.  Everyone pitched in to make the week a success!  We sold 135 tickets to the Chris Cakes pancake breakfast benefitting our family backpack program, so the kindness that North Oak Christian Church has bestowed on us was acknowledged with our support.  As I write this, I look forward to hearing the Windsong Choir tomorrow morning at the breakfast, sharing additional message of kindness and good will.

    • The winner of the Tons of Tabs competition for the 2nd period is (drum roll…….) Ms. Bent’s AND Mrs. Fowler’s classes!!  Each group brought in 5 gallons this time—enough to outpace 4 other classes that each brought in 4 gallons (Good, Boranyan, Honiotes, and Mathews).  Thank you for continuing to support this service project.  We have now accumulated 25 paper boxes of tabs, which Connie Powell, our facility manager, stores in a top-secret location.  Our goal this year is 50 boxes, so we have a very long way to go.  Please encourage friends, family members, distant relatives, neighbors, etc., to join us in helping the Ronald McDonald house serve the families of children who are receiving treatment at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Box Tops

Bell Prairie families have done an amazing job sending in those Box Tops this year.  So far, we have collected $1,486 worth of Box Tops!  At ten cents per Box Top, that is A LOT of Box Tops clipped and sent in.  Our goal for the 2014-2015 school year is $2000, so you can see just how close we are to reaching our goal.  Box Tops has their final submission deadline for this school year set as March 1, 2015, so they can send schools their checks before the end of the school year.  With this in mind, I am asking all our Bell Prairie Mustangs to clip those Box Tops that are sitting on your shelves in your pantry and send them in.  We will be collecting Box Tops late next week, so send them in now!  The best part, is the class that brings in the most Box Tops will win a class reward party!!

From Coach Coy...

Our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser has started. All classes will be working on jumping rope all month. Envelopes have gone out  for donations going to the American Heart Association.  All pledges are due to Coach Coy by March 13th.  There will not be any kind of jump roping event after school, so there doesn’t need to be any permission slips signed in order to participate.   The actual Jump Rope for Heart event will be jumping rope during PE classes.  The only thing that needs to be brought back is the envelope with a donation if a student raises money.

Parent Coordinators Still Needed.....

Thanks to those who have already volunteered to be a parent coordinator for the Hoe Down Baskets.

As of today we only need coordinators for Graham and Mathews class. If you are interested in this please contact Stacey Ploth at

Please be on the look out for letter from your child's classroom coordinator in regards to donation items!  Also if you have baskets  from previous items that you would like to donate, please contact Stacey Ploth.
