The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has invited Sarah Holt, a third grade teacher at Chouteau Elementary, to attend their "Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers" (ECET2) conference held July 15-17 in Seattle.

The conference is by invitation only and identifies Holt as an emerging teacher leader based on her leadership skills and the potential she has demonstrated.

The national conference, designed by teachers for teachers, brings together teacher leaders from across the country to share successes and challenges while elevating their profession.

Holt is a 2010 graduate of William Jewell College and has been with North Kansas City Schools for the past five years, serving her first year as paraprofessional at New Mark Middle School, and later as a second grade teacher before moving to third grade for the last three years at Chouteau.

"I hope to come away with some great resources that others are using," said Holt, "and to meet new teaching friends with whom I can collaborate throughout the coming school years."
