About Eastgate

Eastgate Middle School was the second junior high school to be opened in North Kansas City Schools in 1958. All five district middle schools were junior highs when first opened for 7th and 8th graders. Reorganization during the 1979-80 school year changed the status of junior highs to middle schools and extended grades to include 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

In 1979 the district made its first investment in computer technology with the purchase of Radio Shack's TRS-80s. During that same year, the Business Theme School at Oak Park High School also purchased four computers. But in 1980, grants made it possible for an Apple computer to be placed in one math class at both Antioch and Eastgate middle schools.

Currently Eastgate Middle School is home to more than 700 students who attended elementary school at Chouteau, Crestview, Lakewood and Winnwood. Students will move on to attend North Kansas City High School.
