Educational Technology

North Kansas City Schools believes that to more effectively prepare students for life in today's 21st Century, they must be engaged and learning at school in the same fashion that they are engaged and learning outside of school.  Because technology pervades all aspects of today's society, this means being adaptable to innovation, digitally savvy, and virtually connected.

Check out the NKC Instructional Technology YouTube channel. Here you will find helpful videos for both the MacBook and iPad.

Transformational Technology in NKC Schools - See Video!

Providing a laptop to every high school student (often referred to as "one-to-one," or abbreviated "1:1") is just one of many strategies NKC Schools employs to prepare students for success in today's world.  In a 1:1 learning environment, students are provided laptops to better equip them for anytime-anywhere learning, teachers receive continued professional development to better equip them to provide innovative instruction,  and all consequently become the beneficiaries of 21st Century education.

Some of the benefits of putting a laptop in the hands of every student include:
  • More effective development of 21st Century skills in students
  • More equitable digital access amongst students
  • More effective student-centered learning activities
  • Improved differentiated instruction
  • Increased student engagement
  • Increased opportunity to effectively utilize online resources
  • Better prepared students for typical collegiate learning environments
  • Improved skills and attitudes related to technology and innovation for staff

iPads for Students in Grades K-8

All students in grades 3-8 must sign an iPad Agreement Form before they can receive their iPad. The sooner this form is completed the better for a smooth distribution of devices. The form can be completed two different ways:

  • The PDF can be printed, signed and turned into the main office of the school.
  • Parents can also login to the Parent Portal of PowerSchool (just as they did for online enrollment). Once logged in, choose “NKCSD Forms” from the left-hand menu. Once in forms, select the iPad Agreement Form, complete and submit.

Parents will also have the option to purchase a damage waiver for $20. This can be paid via RevTrack or at the school. If the damage waiver is purchased, the iPad will be repaired at no additional cost. If it is not purchased a fee schedule will apply based on the damage. Details of the fee schedule are included on the iPad Agreement form.
