The award-winning Winnetonka Theatre Department, under the direction of Dr. Sheri Coffman, has been invited by the American Performing Arts International (APAI) to return to London and Edinburgh to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2018. Recognized by APAI for the exceptional quality of their program, caliber of productions, dedication to the arts, and experience with performing both locally, nationally, and internationally, Winnetonka is one of twelve high schools nationwide selected to perform.

The Winnetonka Theatre Department traveled to London and Edinburgh with the American High School Theatre Festival in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2014With the return to the Fringe in 2018, Winnetonka will have successfully mounted five productions on an international stage, allowing them to achieve five-star theatre department status.

Winnetonka High School is the only school in the North Kansas City School District, the Northland and greater Kansas City area to perform at the Edinburgh International Fringe five times. The quality of the performances mounted on the international stage have been an important factor in the repeat invitations to return to the Fringe.

A select group of Winnetonka Theatre students will travel for sixteen days in August 2018. While in London for eight days, Winnetonka Theatre students will attend two West End productions and a Globe Theatre workshop and performance, as well as participate in many other sightseeing excursions.

Once in Scotland, students will perform their show three times at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, the largest Fringe Festival in the world!  As well as rehearsing and “teching” their show at a scheduled dress rehearsal at the performance venue, students will also attend all other APAI productions and shows of their choice at the Fringe. They will tour the beautiful city of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Castle. A day will be spent in the Highlands where participants will visit Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and Loch Lomond. They will also attend the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo, promote their show on the Royal Mile and experience local culture.
