    College and Career Pathways

There is an exciting new learning initiative happening in the North Kansas City schools and it is going to change the way we are educating our students. The College and Career Pathways will transform learning and ensure all students are graduating with skills needed to succeed in college, careers, and life. Starting with incoming 9th graders in the 2021-22 school year, each of our four high schools will offer students the opportunity to be a part of one of four “schools within a school” aligned with leading industry sectors – including health, business, technology/design, and human services. Questions or interested in learning more about the Career Pathways? Please contact Director Christy Collins.

    College and Career Readiness

The Early College Academy program is offered on three of Metropolitan Community College campuses- Maple Woods, Penn Valley, and the ATSI-Advanced Technical Skills Institute. Generally, the ECA is a half-day program and students can make significant progress towards earning an Associate’s degree or earning other industry recognized credentials. All three campuses offer distinctly different programming. For more details, please contact Asst. Director Shannon Gilliland.

    Work Based Learning

North Kansas City schools values the input of our community and business leaders. We understand the work in our classrooms impacts the world around us. Starting Fall of 2021, students across the district will see the authentic connection between classroom activities and the world of work. Students will engage in a variety of work-based learning experiences throughout their 4-year high school experience. Questions about WBL or want to get involved? Please contact Asst. Director Shannon Shelton.

    Postsecondary Success

The NKC Catalyst Program identifies and supports students from all the district high schools who are exceptionally high performing and historically underrepresented to be accepted and graduate from the most selective colleges and universities in the nation. Our vision is that one day all the best students in NKC schools will have access to the best colleges, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status and these unique opportunities will change their lives.
