The word curriculum is literally translated as the Latin, “course to be run.” North Kansas City Schools has worked continuously to define this course for all students as we create the innovative educational experiences described by the Strategic Plan.

Our process begins with the Missouri Learning Standards that are provided for all grade levels and courses. Teams of teachers and district leaders utilize a process that requires them to prioritize and organize those standards into units that are engaging and relevant to students. The curricular documents created for teachers include essential questions to guide instruction over the course of a unit and student-centered learning targets that drive daily instruction.

Curricular development is an ongoing process. NKC Schools is committed to the continual examination of our “course to be run” as we provide opportunities for every student to maximize his or her unique potential.
