We did it! We traveled through 2020 with great courage, perseverance and resilience. To say that it was a challenge is an understatement. Nonetheless, we did it! Our staff continues to appreciate your support, grace and generosity. We have much to be thankful for and while we think of our gratitude daily, we know we are still in the midst of many trials and tribulations. Knowing this, our genuine care for each other is more important than ever, our kindness essential.

As we begin this new year, we still believe “Together is a Great Place to Be” whether your student is learning virtually or in person. We will always be one community!

~Ms. Barnes

Help keep us safe!
With COVID cases continuing in our community, we need your partnership now more than ever to keep our students and staff safe and our schools open for in person learning. Please keep your child home if he/she has a fever and/or multiple symptoms of COVID. If you or your child has been around others that have tested positive for COVID or lives with someone that is showing multiple symptoms of COVID, please err on the side of caution. Communication with Nurse Maryhelen is crucial during these challenging times.

Observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
There will be no school on Monday, January 18th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve.”

Build Your Brain!

Our brains are so very important, we all need to do everything we can to grow it and protect it! As we learn more about building our brains, we have discovered that we can do so by eating healthy, exercising, getting enough sleep each night, challenging ourselves, learning new things, and showing empathy and kindness. As we enter the new year together, this has provided a positive goal for all of us. Ask your child, “How are you Building Your Brain?”

NO Wednesday Early Release on January 20th

On Monday, January 18th, we do not have school in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Because of this, the middle and high schools will have school on Wednesday, January 20th. This causes a transportation issue for which the district is not able to accommodate. Therefore, we will not have early release on Wednesday, January 20 and will dismiss at our regular times. This means our schedule for January 20th will be the same as our previous Wednesday’s prior to early release beginning.

District officials have assured us that this is the ONLY time this year that this will happen. Our district communication department sent information of this change to all families yesterday. Thanks again for your understanding and flexibility!

Valentine’s Day
Thanks to our INCREDIBLE Northview PTA, all of our students will be able to enjoy a safe Valentine’s Day celebration on February 12th.  Like many things this school year, we have been informed of one change from the district as we prepare for this beloved day:

**We are NOT allowed to exchange Valentine cards this year.**

Information also included the following:

*In an effort to prevent dangerous situations due to many allergies and medical needs, and to help bring the same level of party quality to all students regardless of their grade level or class, outside food or drink, other than those that may be planned and provided by the school (PTA, Booster Club, etc.), will not be handed out to students.  These refreshments will be returned home or may be picked up by the parent/ guardian.

*Parents should not bring or send in refreshments (snacks, treats, or drinks) other than those planned and provided by the school. Again, these refreshments will be returned home or may be picked up by the parent/ guardian.

More information will be provided as the date gets closer. Thank you for your support and understanding, we will get through this together!

2020 Reminders of Procedures:

Masks: Students need to come to school with a clean mask every day.

Adults, please wear masks when walking on school property (when dropping off/picking up students or delivering forgotten items throughout the day). As we continue to follow district safety precautions, doing so will help with the consistent message of safety for all. Thank you!

Car Riders: Our line is flowing better each day, thank you for adhering the changes in procedures. Please refrain from parking and walking your child to the door in the morning. As we see families walking between cars it becomes a safety concern as cars are moving. Plan to either travel through the car rider line or walk your student from the crosswalk if your child is a walker. We appreciate your help with this!

Bus Transportation: This year students are only allowed to ride the bus that is assigned to take them to their primary location.  This information can be found in PowerSchool.  Students are NOT allowed to ride home with friends even with a note from parents.  Students set up with alternate locations are only allowed to ride to that location.
